Episode 1 : Going French at Bon Appetit

Welcome to our very first episode of "...and we were hungry."

This is a blog by Dennis Li and Carmen Smith, two foodies from Davao who thought, since we always eat out, that we'd document our food adventures and tell people about it through a blog!

So, for our first episode we bring you to a tiny french corner of Davao City.

Bon Appetit! Le Boutique.

Dennis: I've tried this restaurant before and I have never been disappointed!
Carmen: Let's try it out then. Sunday, lunch, at Gaisano Mall.

*Sunday, Lunch*

Carmen: I want to get some milk tea before we go! Oh, and new shoes.

*After a bit of shopping on Carmen's part, we get our milk tea and head for The Peak, 3rd Level*

Dennis: Let's go get us a table and I'll go take photos afterwards.

Carmen: I'll have the Fricasse de Poulet and the apple pie!

Dennis: I was gunna have the apple pie! ... Fine. I'll have the Steak de Gindara Grille and... the apple tart with home made vanilla ice cream!

Check out our review for the food!

And the desserts!

For those who didn't watch (our awesome) video, here's a bit of a review about the food:

Carmen's Main Course - Fricasse de Poulet is a chicken meat in cream with mushrooms. The sauce was amazing. You can taste some butter and the mushrooms and it was well seasoned. Carmen paired this with grilled potatoes as a side-dish.

Carmen's Dessert - Apple Pie. This is an American classic but Bon Appetit didn't stop that from making their own. It's a sweet and perfect apple pie. Carmen loves!

Dennis' Main Course - Steak de Gindara Grille is a grilled fish steak with a lemon sauce and a fresh cut lemon. The steak was grilled perfectly and the lemon sauce goes great with it! This dish was coupled with a sticky rice side dish that complimented the steak very well.

Dennis' Dessert - Apple Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream. Carmen calls this an "open-faced tart" since it is basically a rectangular pastry with thinly sliced apples on top. Then a scoop of delicious home made vanilla ice cream as a third layer. The ice cream was made from vanilla beans brought all the way from Madagascar! And it was heavenly! I URGE you to try it!

Thank you for reading/watching our first episode! 'Til the next one!

Au revoir!

Note:
When we finished eating we went straight out of the door and a few seconds after, a waitress called us back. We thought we must have left something... we did. We left the bill.. unpaid.

It. Was. Embarrassing.

The owners were there, too. And they were SO nice to us.

*facepalm*
